Varalakshmi also known as Varmahalakshmi is the consort of Lord Vishnu and is the symbol of all that is auspicious from prosperity and wealth. Since she grants boons readily to her devotees, she is known as " Vara Lakshmi". Varalakshmi Vratham is performed in Aadi Masam of July/ August or Aavani Masam of August/ September. This Vratham is taken by Sumangals (women whose husbands are alive) for the well being of the family.
