- 3/4 cup All Purpose Flour (Maida)
- 1/4 cup Cocoa Powder
- 1/2 cup Caster Sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon Baking soda
- 3 Ripe Bananas
- 1/3 cup Oil
- 1/2 cup Buttermilk , (or substitute with 1/2 cup milk, at room temperature + ¼ teaspoon vinegar)
- 1 Whole Egg
- 4 tablespoons Poppy seeds
- 2 tablespoon Chocolate chips , (optional)
How to make Banana Chocolate And Poppy Seed Cake Recipe
To begin making the Banana Chocolate and Poppy Seed Cake Recipe, first preheat your oven at 180 C and prepare the cake tin by greasing with little oil or lining with parchment paper.
Make the buttermilk by combining milk and vinegar, stir and set aside. Once the milk curdles buttermilk is ready. Set aside till required.
In a large mixing bowl, add the flour, sugar, baking soda and cocoa. Whisk lightly till evenly mixed. Set aside.
In another bowl, mash the bananas with a fork, break the egg into it and beat together with the fork till creamy for 1 - 2 minutes. Next, add the vegetable oil, buttermilk and whisk it all together till smooth.
Add the wet ingredients mixture into the flour, and gently fold together with a spatula, until it is smooth and forms a batter-like consistency.
Add the poppy seeds (and chocolate chips, if using) in the batter and combine till evenly distributed into the batter. Pour Banana Chocolate and Poppy Seed Cake batter into the greased tin and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted at the centre comes out clean.
